Below is summary of SCE’s Priority Review Projects which are under review at the Commission.

Residential Make-Ready Rebate Pilot

SCE proposes to provide a rebate to single-family or multi-unit customers to offset permit and installation costs of EV make-ready infrastructure, excluding the charger. A rebate is offered in two tiers:
  • Tier 1 requires proof of EV purchase or lease and subscription to a whole-house Time-Of-Use (TOU) rate plan for 2 years.
  • Tier 2 requires proof of EV purchase or lease and subscription to an EV TOU rate plan for 2 years.
If approved, SCE estimates this program will cost $4 million.

EV Driver Rideshare Reward Pilot

SCE proposes to provide monetary reward to EV rideshare or taxi driver who logs a certain number of rides in a given time period. SCE will work with rideshare or taxi companies to administer the reward program. Pilot goal is to encourage rideshare and taxi driver to purchase EV and to increase EV-miles traveled. If approved, SCE estimates this program will cost $4 million.

Urban Direct Charge Fast Charger Cluster Pilot

SCE proposes to deploy 5 fast charging clusters in urban areas open to public access. Participating customers may include charging network developers, cities and municipalities, public parking lot operators, and customer site hosts. Throughout the pilot, public access must be provided, stations must be maintained in working order, and transactional data will be provided to SCE. If approved, SCE estimates this program will cost approximately $4 million.

Electric Transit Bus Make-Ready Program

SCE proposes to deploy EV make-ready infrastructure to serve up to 20 in-depot and on-route charge ports for electric transit buses. The program will provide a rebate to help cover charger and installation costs. Eligible customers must acquire at least one new electric or plug-in hybrid bus and subscribe to an eligible TOU rate. If approved, SCE estimates this program will cost approximately $4 million.

Port of Long Beach Rubber Tire Gantry Crane Electrification Project

SCE proposes to deploy EV make-ready infrastructure to electrify 9 gantry cranes (currently diesel-powered) at the Port of Long Beach (POLB), whose surrounding neighborhoods are in DACs. POLB will receive CEC grant to cover partial cost of crane retrofit. Crane will be equipped with a motorized cable reel which feeds power to the crane from the distribution grid. SCE will install infrastructure to supply power. If approved, SCE estimates this program will cost $0.45 million.

POLB International Transportation Service Terminal Yard Tractor Project

SCE proposes to deploy EV make-ready infrastructure to electrify port tractor fleet (currently diesel-powered). These tractors move containers around the port. SCE will upgrade network to support charging stations. If approved, SCE estimates this program will cost $3.04 million.
